amiibo Nickname Discussion
May 30th 2015, 11:38 pm
Just thought I'd start a discussion on amiibo nicknames. Here are some I prepared earlier...
Mario - "Jumpman" (his original name in the arcade classic Donkey Kong)
Yoshi - "Koopasaur" (the character Yoshi in Super Mario World was originally going to be a type of Koopa)
Donkey Kong - "Super Kong" (Donkey Kong Country Returns' help feature who was absent in the sequel...why, Nintendo?!)
Link - "Ravio" (a helpful ally in The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds)
Kirby - "Pinky" (a nod to my favourite Nintendo webcomic, Brawl in the Family)
Pikachu - "Redachu" (a reference to the fan name for Ash Ketchum's Pikachu form, Ashachu)
Ness - "Super Ness" (Ness = NES, Super Ness = Super NES)
-
Samus - "Dark Samus" (based on Dark Samus from Metroid Prime 2: Corruption)
Zelda - "Tetra" (Link's companion in two Zelda games)
Ganondorf - "Vaati" (the evil Wind Mage from the Four Sword portion of the timeline)
Marth - "Mars" (similar to Marth's pre-Romanised Japanese name)
Falco - "Sunny" (Falco's name, when written as "Haruko", can mean "Child of Sunshine"; can also be taken as ironic since Falco's personality is anything but sunny)
-
Mr. Game & Watch - "Game Boy" (named after the Game & Watch's successor)
Meta Knight - "Galacta" (a reference to Galacta Knight from Kirby Super Star Ultra)
King Dedede - "Triple-D" (Escargoon's nickname for him in Kirby: Right Back at Ya!)
Ike - "Aiku" (similar to how "Ike" would be written in Romaji)
Wario - "Bad Mario" (Wario is a portmanteau of "waru", meaning "bad", and Mario)
-
Olimar - "Zed" (Zed...as in a palette-swapped Alph. Read Crystals of Silveria. It's pretty alright.)
Charizard - "Lizardon" (Charizard's Japanese name)
Greninja - "Amphinobi" (Greninja's French name)
Robin - "Glenn" (a modified version of the word "green"; also a male name of Scottish origin, reflecting my roots)
Dark Pit - "Pittoo" (Lady Palutena came up with this nickname for Dark Pit in Kid Icarus: Uprising, and Pit used it every chance he got...which ticked off Pittoo to no end! )
-
Villager - "Townie" (because "City-Slicker" doesn't fit)
Sonic - "Needlemaüs" (a reference to SEGA's Project Needlemouse, aka Sonic Lost World, it has a German flavour, referencing the pause screen jump exploit in Sonic Boom, which was parodied in the Sonic Boom cartoon...plus "Needlemaüs" fits whereas "Needlemouse" doesn't)
-
PAC-MAN - "Buster" (well, he busts ghosts, so...um...who would you like to phone?)
-
Fox - "James" (after Fox McCloud's father)
Pit - "Hermes" (a reference to Hermes, the messenger of Zeus in Greek lore)
Which nicknames have you given your amiibo?
