Is Something Wrong With The NFC Scanner On My Wii U Gamepad?

I usually rest my thumb on the scanner of my Gamepad when browsing on the Wii U internet browser and I didn't think that would damage it, but now the white paint where the scanner is has faded and my Gamepad is having trouble recognizing Amiibo. Has anyone else experienced these issues and is there an easy fix without having to send my Gamepad in for repairs? Thanks in advance.
