That's actually one of Zed's key plot points. He apparently has no ties to any of the twelve constellations, which is part of the reason he's unable to learn anything about himself. The twelve constellations are very different from ours, with each of them (except for one) being based on a different character class: The Dragon, the oldest and most venerated of all the world's beings; The Barbarian, the wild brute who can channel their rage into powerful attacks; The Bard, the silver-tongued entertainer who can transform verse into magic; The Priest, the chosen of the Astral Beings who can heal as well as protect; The Druid, the nature-revering individual who can call on Naturia's will to create magic of quite literally a different nature; The Knight, the noble defender who protects anybody who needs protecting; The Shugenja, the warrior-monk who follows a strict regimen of discipline and meditation; The Paladin, the celestial guardian who targets evil wherever it appears; The Hunter, the wilderness patroller who guards the wild from dangerous threats; The Thief, the wily scamp who steals for only...well, mostly...the right reasons; The Sorcerer, the mysterious spellcaster who can tap into wild magic at-will; and The Mage, the learned wizard who specialises in one of three schools of magic. Each of these constellations is clearly visible at a certain time of year, with each one visible for 30 days (except the Dragon, which is visible for 35 days). During the Fourth Year Festival, the night sky is obscured by a rippling mass of light-blue energy. This causes anybody born on the day of the Fourth Year Festival to be marked by any of the twelve constellations at random. Zed, however, is too old (or too young, depending on your perspective) to have been born on that specific day, so nobody knows why he has no constellation mark.

Zed: I was interested in magic but thought I was too old to learn it.

Newt: Then you started to read the cover, and turned your hair blue!

Zed: It caught your attention, but I had no idea what was going on cause I couldn’t see the top of my own head!

Mr. Newt chuckles.

Newt: Oh, I laughed for two minutes. I finally managed to tell you that you are a naturally-gifted mage, but you were too busy panicking about your hair.
