Does Super Mario Land feel like a disappointment to anyone else?

I recently downloaded Super Mario Land from the eshop and was severely disappointed by the poor quality and frustrating nature of the game

Well not really, but I owned the game back in the day - so I knew what to expect. The game does have very bad graphics, but it's still a good game for replayability.

You can read my review on the game if you want. But yes I totally agree with you. It's aged horribly.

You're correct Chrono_Cross, Super Mario Land has aged fairly badly. It was a revelation of it's time, though. It was Mario's debut on a handheld console, and that was all it needed to rise into popularity. In those days, we gamers didn't have any other handheld Mario experience to compare it to. I downloaded it mostly because of the nostalgia it offers.

Games can be frustrating to pass certain hard levels but I didn't feel this in Super Mario Land. Donkey Kong Country Returns on the other hand...

It was one of the first Gameboy games I owned. I never beat it though- as a child, I found it difficult and controls to be frustrating compared to the other Mario games.
Glad that Super Mario Land 2 blew the original away, even though that game was really short too. It's weird. It felt long back then as a kid. Playing it now and reliving on 3DS.. It's far shorter than what I had remembered it being.
Anyways, yes, I find Super Mario Land to be disappointing.

It has aged so poorly that it is nearly unbearable, but Super Mario Land 2 is a great game.

I dont know I still find it as enjoyable as I did when it came out on Gameboy. But I guess since I grew up with it I am just use to it.

I feel the same way about the game Tasuki. There's just something so charming about those pixelated animations of the Mushroom Kingdom.
