I would have to go with Zelda. I get more excited when a new Zelda game comes out more than I do a Mario game.

Most definitely The Legend of Zelda.

Zelda gets my vote, even though I like them both a lot. Zelda games tend to be massive 50 hour adventures into a new world, whereas Mario (platforming games anyway) is purely entertaining rather than truly engaging. Hard to compare them objectively, but there's my opinion.

Agreed with Yoshi, but I'm going with Mario.
Zelda and Samus would be a better match up in my opinion.

Depends. But according to my reviews, it's obvious it's Mario.
Maybe for you. I find most main series Mario games, engaging. But maybe I'm just weird.

@Joe
I think used a bad choice of word there. I can't think of the word I was going to use (I wrote that like three months ago) but perhaps it would be better to say the Zelda games "immerse" me more effectively into the world than the average 2D Mario level. Mario is certainly engaging, gameplay-wise.
