Why is one of my time-trial medals in DKC Returns shiny looking?

I just noticed that when I was looking at my time-trial times,is there some sort of trick to getting shiny medals

I'm not completely sure,but I think you get shiny medals if you beat a level in a much faster time than what is required to get a gold medal.
Like I said though I'm not really sure so don't take it too seriously.
