In feudal Japan demons ravaged the land and killed countless people and worse yet certain monks have set thier sites on a pair of swords known as demonblades to gain immense power, this is the story of the two unlucky souls who have been chosen by certain circumstances to wield the demonblades!
Story
For a game that has a story set in ancient japan, and japanese voice acting it's surprisingly good, and will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Muramasa has two stories in fact, one that focuses on momohime a kunoichi who has been possessed by an evil demon, and surprisingly develops a bond with him,and the second story is the story of Kisuke a wandering ninja who has lost his memories, during the two stories momohime and kisuke will cross paths several times and thier interactions can be quite humorous!
Gameplay
This game combines standard platforming with intense Ninja Gaiden style battles and one of the largest weapon creation menus ever implemented in a game as you can create nearly 150 unique weapons for each of the two playable characters as well as a ultimate weapon both characters can equip!
As I said before the battles are intense as you'll face of against highly skilled enemies with decent A.I. and sometimes you'll face over 100 of them at once!
The bosses are very original and some are absolutely colossal requiring precision attacks in order to defeat them.
Some areas will be blocked by talismines and will require you to obtain a stronger demonblade,by either defeating a boss or creating a stronger demonblade.
Presentation
The graphics in Muramasa are beautiful as every background and character has been drawn by hand which gives this game a real sense of artistic beauty few other games have!
Also being hand drawn graphics allows this game to run smoothly regardless of how much is happening on screen!
The music in this game is fairly decent, and fits the whole feudal japan theme of this game perfectly.
Final thoughts
This is a great game that melds together many genres into one action packed title, and has an artistic feel that few games possess so if you have about $20 do yourself a favor and pick this highly underrated game up at your local game store!
Score 9.8/10
9- Awesome This game has little in the way of flaws, and is a highly enjoyable experience.

I purchased a new copy of this on NA Amazon for less than $13 w/shipping & handling. It's has wonderfully hand drawn visuals which are beautifully and vibrantly colored, but I do have to say that I wouldn't have paid the full MSRP.

This is a great game that really doesn't get as much respect as it rightfully deserves.
