Well there is a huge sidequest involved to get the medallions needed to enter the area.....
Check out http://www.gamefaqs.com
It has plenty of info on all the side quests in the game

Final Fantasy XII (ps2) gambit strategy and help
July 2nd 2011, 7:24 pm
The gambit system in final fantasy XII makes it quite difficult to adapt to different situations only using the same set of gambits so I've created this thread to discuss effective enemy or boss gambit setups or explain the basics of gambits,or what a particular gambit does.......
unfortunately I no longer own the game so I can't really add anything else to this thread.

A good set well, you need to have two of your members focus on healing and one focus on attacking
Here's one strategy
member #1 Healer #1
Curaga ally hp <50%
Curaja ally hp <30%
Elixer ally hp <20%
Member #2 healer #2 and suport
ally status=blind use eyedrops
Self status=silenced use echo herbs
ally hp <40% curaga
Enemy waterga
place your party leader on manual and keep your distance while attacking with a gun while your 1 party member damages him with water spells also use phoenix downs if your party members die, don't be stingy once you deal enough damage his behavior will change, but you shouldn't change your party's gambits just your own tactics with the character you have on manual!
