My 360 won't turn off......

What the bloody hell is going on 
when I was playing the other day my 360 was sounding a tad bit odd so I tried to turn it off,but it wouldn't work so I unplugged it and waited 20 minutes and plugged it back in,and guess what it started me in the same spot in my game I was in before the glitch,so I'm like cool beans :')
But when I pressed a button it froze and wouldn't turn off
should I send it for repairs mates or is there anything I should try firstly
