We had the chance to interview Ackk Studios regarding their upcoming Wii U titles Two Brothers: Director's Cut and Project YIIK and we learned quite a few new tidbits of information regarding the two titles! So without further ado here's our interview!
Ackk Studios Interview wrote:How large is the development crew that's working on the Two Brothers: Director's Cut Wii U remake?
[Ackk]: "There are 5 of us!"
What changes and new content can we expect from the Wii U version of
Two Brothers?
[Ackk]: "The changes are mostly to combat. Added some leveling up features. More choices in weapons. Weapons have more of an importance... and enemy AI is MUCH more complex."
When is the game expected to be released on the Wii U eshop?
[Ackk]: "Summer-ish I hope! Hitting some snags, but we're managing."
What inspired you to create the game's initial 8-bit monochrome world?
[Ackk]: "Mostly it was the gameboy demake fad that happened in like 08-09. We did some demake mockups and eventually ended up with our own look."
How will the rebirth system in the game work?
[Ackk]: "Whenever the player dies they spawn in the afterlife. The afterlife is a whole separate world filled with NPCs and side quests. If you need to return to the living world, the player just needs to jump off the heavens and land back to where they were."
Does colorizing the world play a large role in the story of Two Brothers?
[Ackk]: "Very. At the opening of the game something very tragic happens to Roy... his obsession with colors is how he deals with what happened."
What made you decide not to use a traditional leveling system for Two Brothers?
[Ackk]: "Time. Money. The original version was made on 12k. We all worked for free, and used that for advertising and software."
Can you share some information regarding your new project Y2K?
[Ackk]: "YIIK is a Colorful 3D JRPG set in the 1990s, about eight strangers, a mysterious woman who vanishes in an elevator, and weaponized Panda plashes.
When recent college graduate Alex Eggleston returns home from college, he finds adult life to be filled with mystery, strange friends from the internet, and other worlds that exist just out of sight.
In YIIK, journey across an expansive flat-shaded wonderland, rife with with intricate puzzles, fast paced turn based 8 party-member battles, cat tossing, panda dropping, ladder throwing action. *Batteries not included*"
Are there currently any plans to also release project Y2K on the Wii U eshop?
[Ackk]: "Yes. Day one."
Well that's all for today! Thanks for answering our questions and
hopefully we'll have the chance to interview you again sometime!
[Ackk]: "Take care!"
