Club Nintendo is shutting down this year in Europe and North America

It looks like Nintendo's reward programme Club Nintendo is shutting down this year http://nintendoeverything.com/club-nintendo-to-be-discontinued-in-europe-in-favour-of-another-system/ and this year elite status awards will be received in April http://nintendoeverything.com/this-years-club-nintendo-elite-status-gifts-appear-to-be-digital-only-again/

I hope this means we'll get something like PSN or XBL (but free since that's how it's been for the last 4 years of NN)

Hopefully this doesn't mean that NN will become a paid service like PS+ lol.

Agreed, hopefully it won't be a paid service like Playstation Plus, because there are alot of people who just can't afford to pay that kind of money above and beyond what they already are for their gaming hobby...

There are some people who would say that if you can't afford it then you should choose a different hobby, but many of us started gaming decades ago when the economy was still terrific and if we were to suddenly quit gaming it would almost certainly cripple the video game industry.

Maybe they'll do what PS3 did where you can choose one or the other

@Epona Yep, the one which the Family Computer and Super Mario Bros. helped to correct.

Club Nintendo will be missed.

Have been saving up on stars for something good, but there is so little of interest in the Europe shop. Guess I hold on for a couple of months and then just cash everything in for Wii points so I can get some WiiWare or VC games.
