Strangest Wii U Bug Yet!
August 9th 2014, 10:53 am
We all know that the Wii U hardware is buggier than a Mississippi swamp during a hot summer day, but this one takes the cake! So I just purchased a hard-drive for my Wii U and have found that if a download finishes while you are in the Wii U eshop the system crashes saying that the hard-drive was removed or needs more power such as a AC adapter source, but mine is plugged in via an AC adapter so this bug is quite perplexing to say the least and is an epic fail on Nintendo's part. Have any of you experienced this bug as well or have you found another equally strange bug? If so be sure to join this discussion!

I thought my Wii U had a bug...but it was just a piece of fluff.
I had no idea that the Wii U was buggier than the Azalea Town, Castelia City and Santalune City Gyms combined!

I bought 4 hard drives until I found one fully compatible with Wii U.
None of those with external AC power supply worked correctly.
I recommend getting an USB harddrive that just connects to one USB Slot on the Wii U, no additional cables, no extra power.
They work best.

Doesn't Nintendo state on their website that you should use a hard drive with an external power source?SKTTR wrote:I bought 4 hard drives until I found one fully compatible with Wii U.

No, Nintendo just lists a bunch of specific hard drives they've tested.
But they're not the best option. I followed the official Nintendo recommendation too, at first, but got only frustrated. Nintendo's clearly wrong on that part.
Buy a harddrive without external power supply!!
They're more practical too. They're smaller, less cables, no extra power consumption, and most importantly: They are fully compatible.
All I've tested (tried 3 different harddrives) worked flawlessly.
Those with external power supply: None of them worked (had 3 of them tested as well). Had the same errors as Rukiafan, harddrive shutting down randomly, harddrive not reading randomly, harddrive formatting itself again and again etc.
Very frustrating.

Actually it depends on the hard-drive, but the one I purchased is the exact same model of Western Digital My Book that Nintendo tested themselves and it indeed does work quite well, with the exception of this peculiar bug.

I bought the same one, because it seemed best as it was officially tested by Nintendo.
Well, Nintendo needs to update their "harddrive for Wii U recommendation" info website or get this incompatible Western Digital hd away from their site as it's only misleading customers.

I have the Western Digital: My Book hard drive as well and it works perfectly for me.
Could your issue be a regional one?
