I need help in Metroid Prime: Hunters

I recently stumbled across a preowned copy of Metroid Prime: Hunters for Nintendo DS at a local EB Games. It was part of a 2 for $20 promotion, so I picked it up for old time's sake, along with a Yoshi iPhone cover (because I wanted to make my phone look awesome!). Boy, was I surprised when I booted up the game and discovered that it was my old copy, which I had traded in years ago! I noticed that the character roster was just as I had left it, with Samus, Kanden, Spire, Sylux, Noxus and Weavel all unlocked. I then realised that the circle containing an image of Trace was still greyed-out, meaning he still needs to be unlocked. I am unable to unlock him in single-player due to the difficulty being too intense for me, and it's hard to defeat strangers playing as him over Wi-Fi due to their merciless assault of less-skilled players.

There is one other method available to unlock him, and that's to exchange Friend Codes with another member of WiiWareWave, who would choose Trace as their character in an online battle. I would then need to defeat them just once to unlock Trace as a playable character. It still bugs me to see an incomplete character select screen, especially when the missing character is the one I most want to unlock. Does anybody else have Metroid Hunters? Would you please be willing to help me in my endeavour?
