The End of An Era!
Final Fantasy creator, Mistwalker owner, and legendary developer Hironobu Sakaguchi has stated that he is retiring from the industry now that The Last Story has been released.
A few years ago Sakaguchi stated this.
"This is a title that myself and the development staff are putting 120% of our energy into," says Sakaguchi. "I'm fully pouring everything into this one title, and the feeling of it maybe being my last title is strong."
The Last Story has been quite successful especially in Europe and Japan in which the game has sold more than 1,000,000 copies in each of those two regions, however less than 100,000 copies have sold in NA due to the limited print in the region.

OK, the first thing I did, after reading this was checking if I slept a little bit to long and waked up first of april.
The second thought I had was that I will refuse to belive this before I reciefe a valid source.
At least: If Skaguchi retieres now or later - he had major roles in a lot of my favourite RPG's - he is a kind of 'God of Story telling' for me. And even if the egoistical part of me wants him to bring storys to light for ever he earns a good and healthy retirement VERY well.

This is one credible source, but the newer articles and updates have been from smaller websites like ours, but I'd say this is still fairly likely.

@Rukiafan: Well, this is the source considering Skaguchis often misunderstood sentence, in wich he wanted to say that he is into development AS IF it could be his last game, from 2010. (I remember another statemend of Sakaguchi, saying that he might think about a break from developing, if The Last Story would recieve overall bad critics.) But the source says nothing about Sakaguchi actually retiering in 2013.

Not sure where you're getting those numbers but based off official counts The Last Story only sold about 180k in Japan and NA and only 100k in Europe. About 500k worldwide.
