After so many entries in the Mega Man universe, I don't blame him for questioning what went wrong. Christian Svensson, Capcom USA's senior vice-president had this to say:
"I (and probably I alone so please don’t ascribe said belief to “Capcom”) think one of the problems MM has had as a brand is that we’ve had too many competing splinter sub-brands within it. I’m not sure starting yet another is the way to get the franchise as a whole back on track more than creating greater brand confusion but we’ll take it under advisement.
Mega Man's next outing will be on the iOS titled Rockman Xover (Mega Man Xover).

I've only had the chance to experience the NES classics, so far. Modernized Mega Man games just don't possess the same charm. The beauty of the Mega Man franchise has always been in it's simplicity.

I think it has more to do with quality issues than brand confusion.
