Message for WiiWareWave

It's been a really busy week for myself and Ninja News and instead of typing out a message I thought why not do a video for you guys and explain what my ideas are for the site and the rest of 2012!

Yeah, that's one link I won't be utilizing, because that site isn't compatible with the Wii browser. It's only a problem, because my home computer isn't conveniently accessible.

Yep I saw that and you can send me a couple reviews along my way so I can set it up all nicely and present it well.
I'll add you to the staff list and you could help out with the Fan Page with Nick our Fan Page Manager.

As I stated before elsewhere using the Wii as your main internet is always going to cause headaches.
I'm sure the Fan Page or the blog, forum board - one of them would work for you well enough.

I've been thinking about the forums that we have and I have a idea to put to you guys...
1. WiiWareWave.com becomes official forum board for Nintendo Ninja News
2. Official Link goes from blog, Youtube, and Fan Page goes to Wiiwarewave.com
3. Reviews and Articles can be transfered to Ninja News Blog to create a clear difference -
Blog for the information. Forum for the Discussions. Forums would be cleaned up from the portal messy look.
4. OPTION - Wiiwarewave.com could be named Nintendoninjawave.com to create the link between the two sites and protect the history of the "Wave" members.
5. OPTION - I could become Admin of these forums and help with the design aspects and giving the site more direction in terms of where it's going and working with the unusual large staff. I have also noticed the drop in postings and some of these ideas would no doubt help the current problems.
I think some of those ideas will excite some and I think this could work out. A slick running blog, Fan Page and Youtube Channel all set up with a well run forum board coming together to do some great work.

It sounds interesting, but it would require a separate membership at each website, which would be a turn off for possible new members.

Ive noticed that NNN has got both a youtube page and you guys do podcasts. Those will definatly help with our partnership.
Honestly though of Options Number 4 and 5. I perfer 5. But you have have to do it in a way that keeps the feel of the site. LIke these colours? They need to stay mainly becasue these have always been the coulors of WWW.
(WWW and NNN) Nice)
Then again? Since we should be changing our name soon, maybe we could do a colour change. We would definatly have to see what the members say.

The term "WiiWare" has a shelf life of about a week to go before the Nintendo Network is revealed at E3. The name of the forum will be outdated by the time the Wii U is released around November.
The green colors are ok at best but not the best colors for a web site. The design reminds me of a few sites back in 2003 when I use to use HTML and took me ages to get pages looking right.
Forum Admins and members never like "change" and it's normally those type of forums that stay stuck in the past and never become the success they want it to be. The posts have been down here and normally after it's first year honeymoon is when the real work begins and members get abit tired of it - same thing happened to my forum but I had the right moves to combat that.
The other issue is the large amount of staff - if a decision was needed to be made at Ninja News you only need to talk to one person for the final decision. Here - it's possibly up to six to seven admins which makes thing very hard.
E3 is next week and it's crunch time!

I really don't see how WiiWare only has a week left to exist. The service will continue to exist after the WiiU launches. It's not like Nintendo is actually going to update the WiiShop, at this point in time.
Anyways, I already suggested that we change the name to, "Nintendo Window," but that was a flop.
Also, I guess your idea's would involve revoking everyone's Moderator power's, huh? I guess at NinjaNews you don't really care what others think or want.

Actually WiiWare has been dead for a while and that's hard to say as a Nintendo fan. I do 't how you made up that last paragraph without knowing how Ninja News works. If my forum was only making 15 posts a day with about eight to ten staff members then most of them are not pulling their weight.
I have one staff member on my footy forum and he can easily manage 300 people and the site makes about 30 to 120 posts a day.
The decision has to be made by the owner of the forum and sometimes hard decisions need to be made. Decisions can be made between staff and their members but the boss makes the final call.

WiiWare isn´t dead! I have downloaded a bunch of games the other day and it was still up and alive.
And there are at least 10 games still in development/announced for release, with gems such as Retro City Rampage and La-Mulana and classic remakes such as Frogger Hyper Arcade Edition and Descent coming out.
This is a Nintendo site though, and not just about WiiWare, and we´re aware about that. We´ll change the name of this site just in time anyway.
Thanks for being interested to co-op with our site. We´ll look into it, but just like you said, the boss decides.
Unfortunately most of our staff had/have all sorts of different (personal) problems, me included, but once everyone gets their stuff sorted, I believe we will get better.
I hope to get a pretty good pc by the end of the year to make up for the time I couldn´t do much on here with just my Wii.

Game publisher Nicalis has told GoNintendo why they just cancelled the North American WiiWare port of La-Mulana, and the short answer is, WiiWare just isn't worth the bother.
http://nintendo.about.com/b/2012/05/05/nicalis-declares-wiiware-dead.htm
I rest my case
They should just hold it off until the Nintendo Network is up and running.
The deal here is pretty good for you guys in terms of you still keep your forum intact and you get control of the forum board section and the deeper discussions about Nintendo. My role is to gather what you guys have done so far and give it the professional image makeover so to speak. Make it look and sound impressive much like the other gaming sites out there.
I can understand personal problems too well. I have major depressions for many years and some days are good and some are bad. So we all work on a way to bring everything together and make something special.

My spare time is pretty non-existent at the moment so I'm not being much of a contributor at the moment. Hopefully things will settle down for me soon.
I will say this; While I respect that certain users access this site through their Wiis, to the vast majority of people out there, it's just 'old'. It's built on really old tech, and looks quite dated. As we've been discussing for a while, the name wiiwarewave is also outdated. I expect Nintendo will quickly abandon Wiiware once WiiU is out. It'll still exist, it just won't get any attention/new content.
It's not a question of IF WWW needs to change, merely one of when (ASAP) and how. What Chris suggests may not jive 100% with people here but to do nothing (or even merely a name change) is to accept a slow death.
Having an 'outsider' come and want to 'takeover' and change stuff, may feel distasteful, but it's an option, whereas the status quo, really, in the long term, is not.

Yeah, case closed is probably for the best when listening to one tiny (and pretty dumb) publisher that didn´t even exist when WiiWare was announced.
Case closed is the best way to deny the fact that
a) WiiWare has still more than 300 games alive, and quite a few great ones most of you never played, and...
b) WiiWare has still 10+ games announced for release or in development.
I guess it´s just a matter of semantics, maybe.
WiiWare doesn´t do well, that´s right. But ill doesn´t mean dead.
And dying doesn´t mean dead either.
Having lots of problems, yeah, dead, but only when you kill yourself if you got lots of problems (just a metaphor).
The real problem are the hackers and pirates. Just ask any WiiWare developer. They don´t make profits because most Wii gamers steal the games instead of downloading them officially with Wii Points. The ratio is 2:1, maybe even more.
Anyway, I´m proud to support hardworking developers until WiiWare is really dead.
Listen to someone and be fooled. If I were you I would try listening to other developers like Vblank Entertainment (Retro City Rampage), Asterizm Corporation (La-Mulana), Interplay (Descent), Sabarasa (Protocol), Konami (Frogger), the ones that actually make WiiWare´s heart still beat.
WiiWare is not dead!
At least not until the final officially announced WiiWare game gets released or cancelled.
And finally, I support the idea of bringing the other WW games (that doesn´t make it in time) over to the WiiU Shop. It´s definately for the best. In fact, all WiiWare should get a second chance on WiiU and all WiiWare should be transferable to WiiU.
Now we can close the case, if you want.
Back on topic: I´m going to check out your site now.

Re: Message for WiiWareWave
May 30th 2012, 3:42 am
If WiiWare has only 300 games on it than it did fail. Some of the major issues around WiiWare was the publisher just couldn't make the profits that it could elsewhere. Yes we can blame the hackers and the torrent files but on other platforms games can make a far better profit than the old WiiWare. It's pretty common knowledge with most people that WiiWare didn't really make it because of Nintendo's lack of idea of what online is.
The Nintendo Network will be a big change and will likely be your cup of tea of a successful online downnable games. The eShop is starting to become a decent and good option for everyone.
Returning back to the topic - I really do need some answers on this as the E3 ship is sailing into the docks. And I can't afford to sit around and wait while ten staff members try and figure what to do with the site's future.
I've built a complete blog, forum board, Youtube site, FB Page, Podcast - all in a month by myself. Just think if I had a few more willing people on board and the things that could be done.

Re: Message for WiiWareWave

Let's talk about reviews first off!
The first thing I like to do is to discuss if doing reviews can be done on a weekly basic. I personally do not think that's possible in the short to middle term with both NNN and WWW.
I have even thought of dumping the whole idea of doing reviews and just being a pure news site for the sake that the blog will be active in all of it's areas.. But I have planned a idea to still do reviews somehow.
My idea was to release a "Blank Review" and promote it at our Facebook Page. People would make a paragraph comments on they thought of the game and the best ones will be including in what would be deemed as a collection of people discussing what they thought of it instead of one person. They can also vote out of ten at the review page too.
The idea is to be interactive, get the FB Page firing and solve the problem of a lack of reviewers and specially reviewers who don't get the latest released gems.
Tell me what you think or if you think tweaking it for the better could make the idea too.

About the forums. Like i said before im all down for making making Wiiwarewave the official forums of Nintendo Ninja News.
Wiiwarewave is considered the official forums for my site. But the final decision is going to have to be made by Brian, as he is the owner.
I actually think this is an awesome Idea.

Sadly and once again Brian has rejected any form of offer or deal. I've been pushing hard on him on the fact WWW faces alot of challenges and problems if he doesn't change the direction he's going but he just won't listen or understand. He doesn't seem to have a plan with WWW and I think the only plan there is is just pull the holes in the boat and hope for the best.
With my web site I have a number of ideas if Plan A fails and have released alot of content and sections just by myself. He keeps on talking about identity but I have doubts if he understands what identity means when it comes to the community of the members. The features of a web site doesn't change people's personalities.
The only thin he has offered was articles which you can clearly see I do myself so in reality he hasn't offered anything on the table despite me putting the offer of running the forum all my himself, a professional blog, Podcast, Fan Page, and Youtube Channel. The fact that there's a struggle to even buy a domain name which is only $10 - I could have brought that domain name with a click of my fingers and I have offered that a number of times but no one has listened.
I can't continue to keep making deals (Really good ones) if Brian just keeps on rejecting them and repeatedly says "I'll just keep to what we have". What more can I do now? He had a golden chance to get some real help with the site's direction and he doesn't want it.
Does anyone know what Brian's long term plans are with WWW? How will he address the problems of a large staff where half of them are inactive or in the wrong positions? (I have checked all of WWW stats). The ball was always in his court to improve the site but he just doesn't wanna play.
I'll be moving on with Ninja News and I have told members and staff about my long term plans and have discussed with other Admins outside of my own web site to check that what I'm doing is best. I know where I'm going but do you?

You keep acting like we're doomed and that we can't survive without you which is a little off puting, but I see what you mean and yes I get it, but considering all I have is an Android 2.2 Netpad and a Wii to use for my online needs it might be impossible for me to do much under the circumstances. Enter Forumotion.com it's nearly 100% compatible with almost every browser, and remember one of our strong points is just that!
Without our functionality on even weak game console browsers I think we'd lose most of our loyal longtime followers who post on their gaming device between gaming sessions.

Without our functionality on even weak game console browsers I think we'd lose most of our loyal longtime followers who post on their gaming device between gaming sessions.
So you won't upgrade the site or improve it because of your limited net access and that about three others use very old technology? Meaning that stamps out any other people who want to see a modern design and features. This is part of the reason why people would go to a modern featured web site then this one.
People who can't access Wordpress - used by tens of millions of people is laughable in this age of the internet. You are holding back the site because of a few people who can't access it. You would get far more people if you modernize the site.
The reviews would go on Facebook and discussed on the Podcast too so there would always be a way to know of them. To be honest why would you even start a forum board when you knew you had this limited net access? Up against those who could actually use Wordpress or any web site?
You need to think about expanding the site for possibly the hundreds of members who might want to join your site. But this is the issue ins't it. Simple internet access.

I'm confused. So we're not joining NNN or are we? And I thought NintendoWave was getting an update in June to look more up to date?
@Chris
I looked at your site and I find it attractive. I find the lack of reviews and the name itself to leave me with a funny taste in my mouth, but everything else is spot on.

I'm sorry christicehurst, but I find a lot of what you're stating to be somewhat demeaning and very inconsiderate. I've been a member of this website almost since it was launched. I find it offensive for you state that upgrading the site is far more important than allowing access to longtime members like myself. I became a member of this website because of it's compatibility with the Wii browser. Like I've stated before, I am unable to access my home computer conveniently. Before you arrived, Brian wouldn't have even considered upgrading the website. The majority of our loyal members wouldn't be able to access it, if he did. I'm sorry, but you're going to force me to become even more defensive than I've previously been. Also, I'd really like to know what you mean by staff being in the wrong positions. I'm biting my tongue, right now. I'd love to express myself a lot more harshly towards your statements, but I respect Brian and this website too much to do so. You should seriously watch the statements you're making.

I'm sorry if the statements are demeaning to you. When I design web sites I don't think about people who use their Wii consoles because in reality no uses it for their primary internet access. I don't understand how in today's world people don't have basic internet service or a working computer. I understand kids in Africa or Asia but not in a first world country. When I didn't net access when I was young lad, I went to the Library, Net Cafe, grabbed a friend's net just to keep moving forward.
My aim with the staff members not in the right position was actually trying to be really nice about the situation. I checked the monthly stats for last month - just to see how well the staff interactive with the members. It's a important thing and makes life easier when heated discussions like this happens. I found 2 staff in the top ten posters - out of 14 staff members. It suggests to me that many staff members are only posting about maybe 20 or less a month. And if you have that much staff not engaging or just logging in to keep up appearances then you need to cull staff members and re-organize to the number of staff members that is only needed to help run the forum. Even for the past week on the stats page, I'm the 2nd most active poster and apart from Brain, and Skttr there's no admins to be seen on the forum which is a real shame.
To put it in simple words - Brain has two choices.
1. Re-design WWW and give it the professional edge it needs to grow and to get the many members he could get - hundreds, maybe thousands of members.
2. Remain the same as it is to support about 10 people who use the Wii as their only net access. Growth will be very hard because the site is outdated in forum software technology and lacks the features to go against the thousands of other gaming sites.
I'm just here to help and give WWW something extra to make people come here. The deal was to move articles and reviews to Ninja News and let the good discussions stay here. Take out the portal section and your forum would like 5 times better and more streamlined.
All I can do is put my case forward.

Yeah, the reviews will start coming in for the next few weeks.
And the name, even I thought it was a odd name. But it's like one of those names after a while it sticks on to you - much like Google or Wii.

Ummm... I really don't see why Brian needs to re-design the website, so he can attract thousands of members. You should check out another gaming forum I frequent. Which is also compatible with the Wii browser. They currently have 9,700 total members, and new members have been joining every week.
Nintendo Forums

In all honesty, I don't see why we need thousands of members, anyways. It's not like Brian or anyone else is profiting from however many members we have. Also, why would anyone in Africa or Asia own a Wii console, high-speed internet and a wireless router but not a computer? The point you tried to make doesn't make any sense at all my friend. No sense at all.

@christicehurst Yeah this is making me uncomfortable that it seems like you're trying to force me to make a decision like this even though I'm clearly apprehensive about this, and @KingreX32 it seems to me you're kind of trying to lean me towards making this decision too, though not forcefully like christicehurst.....
Look guys you might not know this, but I had another website named VideoGameMasters.com years ago when I was about 14 that was even larger than WiiWareWave is now....3,000+ members, 60,000+ posts it was on free software like this and I made the mistake of trusting someone that was trying to make a business offer like you are, and not only did I end up having my website stolen from me, but I was also IP banned from the new website where my data was moved to, so you can probably understand why I'm being so defensive and unwilling to accept this offer.
I really don't think I could stand losing a second website I've poured my heart and soul into.
@christicehurst I really don't think you'd do that in all honesty, but when something like that happens to a person they tend to be very cautious and try to make sure it never happens again.

I'm not going to disagree or continue with this deal anymore. You guys are standing your ground and there's nothing I can do to change your mind. I'm also very busy with my site with coding and promoting and getting it right for E3. To WiiaboutU I was comparing you to some poor kid in a World Vision ad. Save up some money and a buy a computer - if 12 year old's can own a computer so can people here. It would really help you guys out with your web site. Hope things go well with WWW and all the best...
And goodbye.
And goodbye.

I'm sorry chris, but it's too much on me given my emotional state right now, especially since I've been had before due to a similar offer.
@KingreX32 In case you're wondering I'm not upset with you I was just bringing up what happened because you probably had no idea that something like that happened to me before.

Honestly this is started to get very heated.
@Brian Yes Iam down for this Partnership with NintendoNinjaNews. I feel in the long run it will help us out. They have some things that we dont have Like a youtube page and a Podcast. NNN seems alot of Social Media Geared than us. Which is a great thing to have.
BUT!!!
I also agree with WiiaboutU, christicehurst your tone is very demeaning, and some of the things you say are offensive. But I have been holding my tongue cause I want this deal to work. If we are going to upgread this site, we are going to do it in a way that out members who access it via thier Wii will still be able to get to it.
Lets not forget that althoguh you have the social media, we have got the members and dedicated staff. We Have indie game developers following us on twitter and we have even been mentioned by them on their websites and even on big sites like Go Nintendo. Not to mention we are older. No offence but your site. No matter how professional it looks is only a month old.
Im not knocking you or your site. But it seems like you dont know how to talk to people. Cause the way youve been talking to us is awful.
BUT!!!!!!
Iam willing to put all this aside to work on this. If Brian is up to it. Like I said I can see the benefits, of what you have.
Seriously Brian, christicehurst. We need to come to some sort of agreement. Cause all this arguing in front of members and visitors is very Unprofessional.

Now It seems that Brians issue is giving christicehurst too much control of the WWW. I think we should just Start Small.
Something that I did with KingreX32's REviews was make Wiiwarewave my sites official Forums. Thats what christicehurst said he wanted to do with WiiWarewave. Make our forums his official forums. IMO this isnt a bad thing. We would still be in control. its just a matter of christicehurst getting his design guys to come in take a look around and make minor "cosmetic" changes that still keep the feel of Wiiwarewave but makes us look abit like Nintendoninjnews.
But nothing too radical. Like I said before. Johnknight is our Graphic Designer weshould get him on this too. Unfortunatly he is a very bust guy. But I will PM him. For now we should just work on this.
I know I sound like a broken record but I see the benefits. As long as we can come up with some sort of FAIR deal. I still think that this can work.
Personally I think we should take a breck from this disscussion and revisit it after e3. Once we have all calmed down and have had a moment to think.

I'm not sure why I'm still trying to on work on this. I guess KingreX's continued support is the only reason.
Let's go with this idea which was mainly my idea. Just place the "Forum" link at my blog to this web site. Leave everything of the forum alone and place the best reviews on Ninja News.
That SHOULD make everyone happy.
