Sony loses $5.5 billion in from April 1st 2011- March 31st 2012

Sony is in some serious trouble if they don't turn things around soon especially considering they have lost over $17 billion since 2008 things certainly don't look good for sony

The strength of the Yen is really hurting both companies. But Sony has deeper issues. It used to be innovative and high quality. Now Sony products are just fancy and expensive.

I have a Cheap sony DVD player. LOL. Come. I paid 47 bucks for it.

According to a new stock report Sony is already at a $3 billion loss since the beginning of April which means the financial situation is even worse for Sony so far this year then it was last year, but as a former die-hard Sony fan "during the PS1/PS2 days" I certainly hope they can turn things around.

Honestly Nintendo can afford to have a few more off years based on the amount of money they lost last year and still be in a better position than Sony. While it's true Sony has other products besides games to rely on e.g. music and movie products, those industries are ironically in even worse shape than the video game industry, which is why Sony is in the financial turmoil it's in right now.

Then you have Microsoft which is in the technology industry which is still thriving despite the terrible state the economy is in and is the reason that Microsoft is still financially stable "for the most part" despite the money they have lost due to the RROD problems with their Xbox-360's.

Im not sure jow business works but Overall in my limited opinion. Shouldnt sony and Microsoft always be in a better position than Nintendo?

I mean Nintendo Is a gaming company, they only amke games and consoles.

Sony In addition to the PS3 and PSP/Vita makes TV, Cameras, Laptops, Batteries, Phones.

Microsoft, Computers, Operating Systems and Word Processing Software and Antivirus Software.

howif a company that focuses only on gaming doing better. Sometimes you gotta ask these things.

Samsung is now perceived (and rightly so) as being higher quality while still have lower prices (mainly because Samsung is Korean and doesn't have to worry about a high Yen). It's killing Sony's TV business.

Sony has been too complacent to coast on name brand and quality alone without innovation in every area they compete in and in every area - music, TV, games, etc. they have been crushed by innovators (Apple, Nintendo or people doing it better, cheaper: Samsung)

When I comes to Electronics I dont even Buy Sony. For DVD players and MP3 players its all About Philips. I hate sony stuff. They can never just use what everyone else uses. They always go out and make thier own memory cards, and chargers and stuff.

So Annoying.

Just look at PSVita. Can't use a standard SD card for next to nothing. You've got to buy a Sony card for $80 I think it is. Stupid.

I HATE thier products. The only reason I have that DVD player, NO Lies is because the Philips one wasnt there. Thats the only reason I bought it.

I appreciate Sony's contributions to the industry, so it's unfortunate to see them struggling along financially. Not to sound all doom and gloom, but it would be a sad day if everyone there had to lose their jobs.

That said, the proprietary memory cards are pretty irritating. In the Vita's case it's supposed to combat piracy, but that's not exactly improving the system's sales right now. In fact, the memory card situation prevents me from purchasing games I'd like to download on from PSN.

They would save so much more money if they just used SD card like everyone else.

Sony needs to obtain more exclusive titles to compete with Microsoft and Nintendo.
