Dragon Quest VII is a very good game that is often overlooked and at least in my opinion is much better than IX as it plays more like a traditional rpg!
I also like its story and the characters that you meet along the way.
This game is totally worth purchasing since it's fairly cheap at gamestop $9.99 used last I checked!

Dragon Quest VIII is the best Dragon Quest game in every aspect so I think you should definitely give it a try!
